The primary goals of Tibiotalocalcaneal (TTC) Arthrodesis are to alleviate pain, correct deformities, and achieve stable fusion.
Intramedullary nailing is now a widely accepted technique for both TTC and tibiotalar arthrodesis, providing excellent stability, proper alignment, and optimal positioning when inserted through the plantar aspect of the foot.
Procedure Highlights:
- Joint preparation via ankle arthrotomy to ensure proper surface contact.
- Insertion of intramedullary nail through a plantar incision.
- Proximal screws into the tibia for stability.
- Distal locking with screws into the calcaneus and talus for mechanically secured fixation.
